The Vagabond Gamecast

Wow, it’s already 2017!

Did you know that even though Sprixelsoft may have shut down, Matt and I are still at it with our game-centric going ons? I now make AAA games, and Matt now plays AAA games (not often). And while we may not be working on a game together, we DO make a podcast together.

If you feel like checking it out, head on over to Allegro Digital, where you can listen to our weekly podcast (heck you can even subscribe on that iTunes thingamajig!

Allegro Digital is ready for action!

Hey there true believers! As you know, Matt and I decided to wrap things up with Sprixelsoft earlier this year. As things stand now, we’ve decided to amicably go our seperate ways. I’ve still got a keen interest in making ya’ll squeal with delight with a game of my own some day, so I thought I’d let you know that I’m cooking up something new. It’s still a way off at this point, but I’ve got a bun in the oven. I’m also trying to make a video game.

Anyways, I’ve decided that as Sprixelsoft was really a joined effort between myself and Matt… I’m going to move any development blogging over to my personal webspace. I know that there are some of you out there who follow Sprixelsoft on either Twitter, Facebook, or RSS that don’t necessarily follow me as an individual so here’s your chance to keep up with all the important info! If you’ve enjoyed following what we were up to last year why not continue to do so over at AllegroDigital.com? I just finished getting everything up and running over there, so while there may be some kinks to workout I’ve already got one new post up. If you’re following Sprixelsoft on Twitter, why not follow me? And finally, if you were following Sprixelsoft on Facebook… come be friends with me!

Thanks for everything!

Dissolution of Sprixelsoft Studio Limited

You may have noticed that after a seemingly optimistic start to the year where we announced that we were looking to take 2014 by the horns that there was a sudden drop-off of updates. I’ve never been the best at cushioning bad news, so lets cut straight to the meat of it: Sprixelsoft Studio Limited is no longer a corporation. Read more here.

Dialogue and Pixels

One interesting thing about the way the Unity community has developed, is that while there are lots of tutorials out there and people willing to help answer your questions on the forum… there also is a large asset store full of solutions that could be used if you’re willing to spend a little coin. I spent this week mostly reading reviews and looking at what my options are for making a game without the burden of figuring out how to do everything myself.

Jumping off Walls

I got up to learning more 2D platforming this week, though with a friend of 20+ years in town this week I’ve ended up doing far more touristy stuff this week than bi’ness. Actually, 2D platforming is a slight misnomer, as the stuff that I was working with this week was actually 3D.

Unity 2D Collision Woes

I’ve decided to cut back on blog posts for a while. Last year, I was trying to make regular updates on Mondays and Wednesdays about the gaming industry, however I feel that the time that I’ve spent researching things to share and talk about (let alone the time actually writing) could be more fruitfully spent trying to do actual development. We will continue to make regular updates on Fridays about what we’re up to.

Learning Unity

Over the holidays, I kind of came up with a new idea for a game. Matt’s still working under the hood to get Super Hematoma up and running, so I figured I should make the most out of my downtime and start getting something else on the table.

Steve’s Gaming Escapades from 2013 (Part 3)

Don’t tell me you thought I was done talking about the games I played last year. I had many hours to myself in 2013, and a huge backlog of games to play.  I currently have 104 owned yet untouched games in my collection… so don’t be surprised if we see a lengthy list next year too. This will however finally conclude the review of games I played in 2013.

Steve’s Gaming Escapades from 2013 (Part 2)

Wow. When I started reviewing the games I’d played in 2013, I hadn’t realized at first just how many there were. What I thought would be spat out in a little more than an hour has turned into a two-parter. So what were the other games that I played in 2013? Buckle-up there pardner, I’m about to tell you.

Steve’s Gaming Escapades from 2013 (Part 1)

You may not be aware that I play video games. It’s… you know… a thing that I do. Sometimes. After getting burned by the hype that surrounded Final Fantasy VIII (one of my least favourite games of all time) back in 1999, I gave up on paying attention to marketing. I don’t frequently pick up new titles unless the buzz and the appeal is just too much to handle. I’m a slow adopter, and thus some of what I spend my time playing has already been out for decades. I played a good number this year, so lets get started.
