It’s Scary Being Indie
I like to keep up-to-date with the latest Post Mortems that find their way into the gaming news websites. It’s one of the first things I’ll check out on Twitter and the main reason I keep an eye on Gamasutra. Thanks to the Penny-Arcade Report I came across this one from Flippfly, makers of Race The Sun.
Humble Bundle 9
You’ve all heard of the Humble Indie Bundle right? It’s that radmania site that gives you the chance to buy a collection of hip to the max indie games for an unreasonably low price (or generously ginormously high price since it’s pay what you want). Well kids, if you haven’t heard of it yet you’re in for a treat.
Flame On!
We’ve had it in our heads for a long time now, that this Oil Sands level that we were creating was going to be a hazardous level to play in. While admittedly it’s looked pretty straight forward until now, that’s because it’s really only been half complete. It’s now like… 60% complete. Or something.
River City Ransom Underground
So it’s no secret that Matt and I love the Kunio-kun games, including River City Ransom. Technōs’s games, including RCR, Double Dragon, Battle Toads, and some of the less common games such as Nekketsu Kakutou Densetsu and Crash N’ The Boys are very dear to our hearts. It’ll be interesting to see how River City Ransom Underground turns out.
Awesome Mighty No. 9 Animation!
I figured I’d call attention to some animation that was done by a friend of mine, Jay Edry. It’s only been about a week since Inafking‘s Mighty No. 9 Kickstarter launch, but already there’s been a bunch of fan art for the exciting Mega Man spiritual successor. Jay and I went to school together a few years back, but you might recognize him as the guy that brought you the awesome animation from (amongst other things) this year’s Guacamelee.
Back To The Grind
As you’re probably aware already, we missed doing any sort of an update last week as we were both at the Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle. This was our first time at PAX and it was a way for us to get a little bit of a handle on what exactly these conventions are like. We plan on having a booth of our own some day and figured that it would be worth it to check the scene out both for the analytical point of view as well as for pure enjoyment.
Mighty No. 9 Q&A at PAX Prime 2013
As you’re probably aware, Matt and I ventured off to PAX Prime in Seattle this past week where we got to experience our very first PAXes. I went to DEV where it was really a great experience to meet people and go to panels. Prime was fantastic, and again I mostly spent most of my time going to panels. The showroom floor isn’t particularly my thing as I tend to get a little uncomfortable trying to maneuver through crowds. There’s lots of great stuff to talk about though, as I’m sure I’ll eventually work into blog posts.
Chipzel’s New Album: Spectra
I’ve mentioned Chipzel (of Super Hexagon fame) before here on our blog. She’s a fantastic chiptune musician that does amazing work with a Game Boy. Her latest album, Spectra, was also released yesterday. If you haven’t already, I highly recommend that you head on over to her bandcamp page and buy the crap out of it with all of your dollars. Well… maybe not all of them. Save some for when we decide to sell our game. But you can give her a good portion of your dollars. Or Pounds… or Yen… or Rupees. Whatever it is in your pockets, basically.
Online Experiences and Micro-Transactions
While at Gamescom 2013, Engadget sat down with EA Chief Operations Officer Peter Moore for a brief talk which seems to echo the overall feeling that I got from Casual Connect last month. Free-To-Play, Online Experiences is where gaming is going.
Rain City
There’s been yet more animation done this week, however as a change of pace I decided to take a stab at fleshing out one of the next levels to come for Super Hematoma. It’s going to be a rainy night-time city level from the west coast of Canada.
